Dental insurance at Foothill Ranch Dentistry

What is Dental Insurance/Dental Benefits?

Dental insurance typically covers the cost or a portion of the cost for a dental procedure such as preventive care (cleaning), exams, X-rays, fillings, and more.

Dental insurance is purchased separately from medical insurance, and depending on your oral health history, your treatment needs, and which dentist you want to see, dental insurance may not be worth the value you are paying for the insurance plan.

CareCredit

CareCredit provides a variety of payment options that can be used for managing the cost of numerous procedures, including healthcare costs that aren’t related to dental services. Most of our patients use CareCredit to finance cosmetic care that is not covered by insurance or the portion of their restorative care that isn’t included in their benefits (such as deductibles and the patient portion after insurance is filed.) These plans vary from 6-24 months or longer with both low and 0% interest options as long as you pay back the balance within a specific timeframe.

LendingClub

Like CareCredit, Lending Club can be used to cover any dental service, whether it’s medically necessary, restorative, or related to elective cosmetic treatments. Lending Club also offers low monthly payment options and little to no interest on their loans.

You can easily apply for Lending Club or CareCredit here at our office or online. Approval is usually immediate, so you can schedule treatment as early as the same day if you need to. A credit report may not even be necessary, depending on the lender you choose.

Insurance & Financing FAQs

What if I’m out of network?

Even if we are out-of-network with your insurance, we will work with your insurance to reduce care costs. Although many insurance plans may restrict in-network benefits to certain providers, you can normally use your plan at out-of-network dentist’s offices as long as you pay the difference in the coverage and treatment fee. To help you better make decisions and understand your care, Foothill Ranch Dentistry will always print an itemized treatment plan that lists all fees and procedures included, along with your estimated insurance benefits and patient portion. That way, you know exactly what to expect prior to scheduling any treatment. Additionally, you can always choose to finance all or a portion of your procedure when necessary.

How much does my dental insurance cover?

Every patient at Foothill Ranch Dentistry will receive a detailed treatment care plan with an itemized insurance estimate included. That way, if you’re planning to get a filling, crown, implant, or other procedure, you can see what your insurance is expected to cover compared to the total treatment price. When possible, our Foothill Ranch dentist will also offer alternative treatments worth considering so that you can compare them to one another and budget accordingly.

When should you finance treatment?

If you are in need of flexible payment options. Dental financing is the most affordable option is to use the low and 0% interest financing offered through our Foothill Ranch, CA, dentist office rather than a separate credit card or private loan. Many of our patients can pay back their balance with no interest whatsoever and no strings attached. This is an excellent budget-friendly option if you have a medically necessary treatment, require major dental work. Using dental financing makes the care available now without waiting which can be important if you have active tooth decay, gum disease, or missing teeth. Many of these conditions simply become more expensive to manage the longer you wait to address them.

How do PPO dental plans work?

A Preferred Provider Organization (PPO) is the most common form of dental insurance, offering members a network of participating dentists to choose from. Dentists in this network agree to lower fee schedules, resulting in greater cost savings for patients. PPO plans cover a percentage of treatment costs, typically paying 50% for major treatments like crowns and bridges, 80% for basic care like fillings, and up to 100% for preventative care such as exams and cleanings. These plans often have annual maximums ranging from $1,000 to $2,000 and assist with insurance billing.

Which treatments are covered by dental insurance?

Dental insurance assists with coverage for a wide range of treatments, from cleanings and exams to fillings, root canals, and dentures. If your dental treatment is only partially covered by your plan, the remainder of the cost is out of pocket. In most cases, preventive care (for healthy gums) is covered at or close to 100%, with major and basic services covered somewhere between 50-80%. Every dental insurance policy has an annual maximum and specific criteria that treatments must fit into if they are reimbursable by your insurance plan. If you have concerns about your coverage, it’s best to talk to your employer’s HR department to discuss the specifics of your policy and where it’s accepted. !
